The short answer

Company formation is one part of a launch. Decide the activity and legal form, obtain the required licence and approvals, then coordinate premises, immigration, banking, accounting and tax. A fast licence does not mean every other milestone is complete.

What happens before the licence application?

Describe what you sell, who your customers are and where delivery occurs. Confirm activity codes, the legal form and any sector approvals with the chosen authority. Dubai’s official platform offers distinct mainland and free-zone pathways. [1] Choose around the actual business rather than an advertised starting price.

Collect shareholder and signatory information, proposed names and corporate shareholder records where relevant. Ask whether any documents require attestation or translation. Confirm the premises arrangement and headcount assumptions before paying for a package.

How should you budget and schedule?

Request formation, first-year operation and renewal costs separately. Distinguish a visa allocation from issued immigration documents and professional handling from government fees. Include deposits, rent, insurance, accounting and working capital. A universal minimum price would hide too many different scopes.

Build the timeline around dependencies: approvals, document readiness, premises and authority requests. Track licensing, work/residence processing and bank onboarding separately. Do not book an employee start date or promise a customer payment capability solely on a suggested licence turnaround.

Which compliance tasks belong after formation?

Assign responsibility for tax registration and VAT monitoring from the start. VAT registration uses taxable supplies and imports and the relevant time windows, not simply annual revenue. [2] Free-zone Corporate Tax treatment is conditional rather than a universal exemption. [3] Keep the evidence and next deadlines in a shared company calendar.

A checklist to take into your next meeting

  • Agree activity codes in writing.
  • Check the legal form and required approvals.
  • Get inclusions, exclusions and renewal costs.
  • Track banking and immigration separately.
  • Start the books and assign tax ownership.
