The short answer
Calculate the return and payment deadline from the company’s actual tax-period end. The general timeframe is nine months after that end. A headline date such as 30 September applies to the relevant calendar-year example, not to every UAE company.
How do you calculate a filing deadline?
Confirm the tax period in the entity’s records and applicable FTA position first. The FTA states that returns and payment are generally due within nine months after each tax-period end. It gives 31 December 2025 → 30 September 2026 as an example. [1] That example has already passed as of this article’s check date.
Illustrative calculation under the general rule: a period ending 31 May 2024 leads to 28 February 2025, not 30 September 2025. The former article incorrectly associated those dates. Check unusual first periods and any applicable exception rather than copying another entity’s calendar.
Is registration due on the same date?
No. Registration is a distinct obligation with its own applicable rules. Record the entity’s registration deadline, position and submission evidence separately. A return deadline should not be presented as a universal allowance to delay registration.
Plan accounts preparation and tax review before the final submission date. Assign owners for missing evidence, adjustments, approval and payment. File submission and settlement are separate completion checks; retaining a return acknowledgement does not prove payment reached the account.
What if the relevant date has already passed?
Confirm the outstanding registration, return or payment position promptly in EmaraTax. Resolve missing records and identify the correct current process for any error. Do not wait for the next annual cycle or assume zero tax payable removes filing obligations for a taxable person. Keep submission, payment and correction evidence with the period’s records.
A checklist to take into your next meeting
- Confirm the actual tax-period end.
- Calculate and verify the applicable deadline.
- Track registration separately.
- Schedule accounts, review and approval early.
- Retain filing and payment confirmations.
