The short answer

Plan statutory entitlements, employer commitments and optional perks separately. Confirm the employment framework and employee category first; leave, insurance, pensions and end-of-service arrangements do not have one universal treatment for every UAE employee.

Which benefits should be checked before an offer?

Build a benefits schedule alongside the salary offer. Identify annual, sick, maternity and parental leave, health coverage and the relevant end-of-service or pension arrangement. For employees covered by the federal private-sector framework, the labour law and MOHRE guidance are the starting references. DIFC and ADGM require separate checks. [1] [2]

Do not copy an expat gratuity formula into a national employee’s pension calculation or assume every employee can choose the same savings scheme. Record the applicable scheme, enrolment owner and payroll inputs. Quote optional allowances explicitly so the contract does not promise something the budget omitted.

What changed about health coverage?

The extension of mandatory health coverage to the remaining emirates began on 1 January 2025, linked to residence issuance or renewal. MOHRE’s scheme explains the transition for earlier valid permits and the employer’s financial responsibility. [3] The old claim that coverage was merely optional outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi is therefore no longer a sound planning assumption.

Check the required plan and approved provider for the employee’s situation. Record renewal dates, evidence of coverage and whom employees contact for access problems. Avoid presenting one basic package price as the full cost of every employer’s insurance needs.

How do you keep benefits practical?

Give employees a concise benefits summary showing eligibility, the request route and who approves. Reconcile entitlement records monthly with payroll and review outstanding leave before year-end. When someone leaves, prepare a documented settlement and check the applicable deadlines; a generic internet calculator cannot account for every employment category.
